The phenolphthalein alkalinity of whole mud, found by diluting a small mud sample in distilled water, adding phenolphthalein and titrating with 0.02 N sulfuric acid until the pink colour disappears. It is reported in millilitres of acid per millilitre of mud. Pm is paired with Pf, the filtrate value, to calculate the excess lime held undissolved in a lime mud.
