Gas lock
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001627
A condition in a downhole pump, typically a sucker rod pump, where free gas enters the pump chamber and prevents the pump from effectively lifting liquid. The gas, being compressible, is compressed and expanded by the pump's action without displacing the liquid. This reduces pumping efficiency and can lead to complete pump stoppage.
