Gas interference
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001625
The adverse effect on a downhole pump's performance caused by free gas entering the pump intake along with produced liquids. The presence of compressible gas reduces the pump's volumetric efficiency, leading to a condition known as gas lock where the pump chamber fills with gas and stops moving fluid. This phenomenon is quantified by the gas volume fraction at the pump intake, with performance degradation starting at fractions as low as 10 to 20 percent.
