Gas anchor
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001610
A device installed at the bottom of a sucker rod pump intake to separate free gas from the produced liquid before it enters the pump. It works by creating a quiescent zone where gas can rise and escape up the annulus, while liquid falls to the pump intake. This separation prevents gas locking, which can reduce pump efficiency and lead to premature equipment wear.
