Mud anchor
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002445
A joint or several joints of tubing with a closed lower end, hung below the intake of a sucker rod pump to act as a sump where sand, scale and other solids settle out of the produced fluid before reaching the pump. Its length sets how much sediment can collect between pulls. It differs from a gas anchor, which separates free gas from liquid at the pump intake.
