Float collar

A check valve device installed near the bottom of a casing string, which prevents cement from flowing back into the casing after placement. It contains a ball or flapper valve that allows drilling fluid and cement to pass downward but closes to hold the cement column in place. This device also provides a landing seat for the cementing plug.
