Float shoe

A rounded, heavy-walled casing accessory installed at the very bottom of a casing string, equipped with a check valve that prevents reverse flow of cement or formation fluids into the casing. It guides the casing past irregularities in the wellbore and protects the casing shoe from impact. The float shoe is the first component to enter the drilled hole.
