Casing shoe

A short, heavy-walled section of casing with a rounded or beveled bottom, attached to the first joint of casing run into the wellbore. It guides the casing past irregularities in the hole and protects the bottom of the casing string from damage during running. The casing shoe often contains a check valve to prevent backflow of cement.
