Bump the plug
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000490
To land the top cementing plug on the float collar or landing collar at the end of displacement, which stops the flow and shows as a sudden pressure rise at surface. The rise confirms that the calculated displacement volume has been pumped and the plugs have seated, and the crew then applies a test pressure, often about 500 psi over the final circulating pressure, to check that the float equipment holds.
