Wiper plug

A device used in cementing operations to separate the drilling fluid from the cement slurry and to clean the inside of the casing. It is pumped down the casing ahead of or between cement batches, wiping the casing walls clean of mud. The top plug lands on the bottom plug, indicating that the cement has been displaced to its target depth.
