Cementing plug

A device, typically made of rubber or plastic, used during cementing operations to separate different fluids and wipe the inside of the casing. A bottom plug precedes the cement slurry to prevent contamination by drilling mud, and a top plug follows the cement to displace it down to the shoe. These plugs are designed to rupture or seat at specific points in the casing.
