Expendable plug
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004318
A temporary plug placed in the bottom of a tubing string or packer bore so the tubing can be pressure tested and a hydraulic packer set. Afterward the plug is removed by knocking it out with sinker bars on wireline, pushing it out with set-down weight, or pumping it out with pressure, and the pieces fall to the bottom of the well instead of being retrieved. It is a single-use item, unlike wireline-retrievable plugs that seat in a nipple and are pulled for reuse.
