Retrievable packer

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003144

A packer designed to be released and pulled from the casing, normally along with the tubing it was run on, which allows repair of the completion or reuse of the packer. It isolates zones for production, injection, treating or testing and is set mechanically by rotation or tubing weight, hydraulically by pressure, or with a wireline setting tool. This contrasts with a permanent packer, which must be milled out to remove.
