Winsor phase behavior

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004497

A classification system describing the types of microemulsion phases that form when oil, water, and surfactant mixtures are combined, particularly relevant in surfactant-polymer flooding for enhanced oil recovery. Winsor Type I involves a microemulsion in equilibrium with excess oil, Type II with excess water, and Type III with both excess oil and excess water. Type III systems are generally preferred for optimal oil recovery due to their ultralow interfacial tension.
