Micellar-polymer flooding
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002346
A chemical enhanced oil recovery method that involves injecting a slug of a micellar solution, followed by a larger slug of a polymer solution. The micellar solution, a microemulsion of surfactant and brine, drastically lowers the interfacial tension between oil and water to mobilize residual oil. This process can reduce interfacial tension to ultralow values, often below 0.001 dynes/cm, which is necessary to mobilize capillary-trapped oil.
