Micelle
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002347
A spherical or cylindrical aggregate of surfactant molecules dispersed in a liquid, where the hydrophilic heads face outward towards the solvent and the hydrophobic tails cluster inward. These structures form spontaneously above a certain concentration, known as the critical micelle concentration. Micelles are used in enhanced oil recovery to solubilize oil and reduce interfacial tension between oil and water.
