Surfactant flooding

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003706

An enhanced oil recovery method where a dilute solution of surfactants is injected into a reservoir to reduce the interfacial tension between oil and water. This reduction in tension allows the injected fluid to mobilize residual oil that was trapped by capillary forces. Surfactant flooding can significantly increase oil recovery, often by an additional 10-20% of original oil in place.
