Surfactant
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003705
A surface-active agent, typically an organic compound, that reduces the interfacial tension between two immiscible fluids, such as oil and water. In enhanced oil recovery, surfactants are injected into reservoirs to mobilize residual oil by lowering the capillary forces that trap it. Common types include anionic, cationic, nonionic, and amphoteric surfactants.
