Ultralow interfacial tension
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003969
A condition where the interfacial tension between two immiscible fluids, such as oil and water, is reduced to extremely low values, typically less than 0.01 mN/m. This reduction is achieved by injecting surfactants into the reservoir, which allows capillary forces to be overcome. Ultralow interfacial tension is a key mechanism in surfactant flooding for mobilizing trapped oil.
