Cosolvent
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000873
An organic compound added to a primary solvent system to increase the solubility of certain components or to modify the phase behavior of a fluid mixture. In enhanced oil recovery, cosolvents are often used with surfactants to improve their effectiveness in reducing interfacial tension and mobilizing trapped oil. Alcohols like isopropanol or butanol are common cosolvents in surfactant flooding formulations.
