Cosurfactant
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000875
An alcohol or other amphiphilic substance added to a surfactant-oil-water system to improve the stability and performance of the microemulsion. It modifies the surfactant's behavior at the oil-water interface, increasing its solubility and preventing the formation of highly viscous liquid crystal phases. Short-chain alcohols like isobutyl alcohol or secondary butyl alcohol are common examples used in chemical enhanced oil recovery formulations.
