Solubility

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003501

The maximum quantity of a substance, the solute, that can dissolve in a given amount of another substance, the solvent, at a specific temperature and pressure. In enhanced oil recovery, the solubility of gases like carbon dioxide or nitrogen in crude oil is a key parameter, as dissolution causes the oil to swell and its viscosity to decrease. Solubility is expressed in units such as moles per liter (mol/L), as a mass fraction, or as standard cubic feet per stock tank barrel.
