Specific gravity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003530
The ratio of a substance's density to the density of a reference substance, most often water for liquids and solids or air for gases, at specified conditions of temperature and pressure. As a dimensionless quantity, it is used to characterize fluids like crude oil, drilling muds, and natural gas. For crude oil, it is inversely related to API gravity, a more common industry measure.
