High-specific-gravity solids
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001832
Solid particles of high density, with a specific gravity far above that of clays and drilled rock (about 2.6), added to a drilling fluid to raise its weight. Barite at about 4.2 and hematite at about 5 are the standard examples. Their share of the total solids load is calculated from retort solids and mud weight by mass balance.
