Solution gas

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003502

Natural gas that is dissolved in crude oil within the reservoir under pressure. As reservoir pressure declines below the bubble point, this dissolved gas comes out of solution, forming free gas. The liberation of solution gas provides a natural drive mechanism for oil production in many reservoirs.
