Hydrophobic

Describing a substance that repels water and tends not to mix with or be wetted by water. In drilling fluids, hydrophobic materials are often used to create oil-based muds or to modify the surface properties of solids to prevent water interaction. Oil and waxes are examples of hydrophobic substances.
