Lyophobic
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002243
Describing a substance that has a weak affinity for the dispersion medium in a colloidal system, meaning it is solvent-hating. In drilling fluids, lyophobic particles tend to repel the fluid and are less stable in suspension, often requiring stabilizing agents. Examples include finely divided drilled solids in water-based muds.
