Lyophilic
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002241
Describing a substance that has a strong affinity for the dispersion medium in a colloidal system, meaning it is solvent-loving. In drilling fluids, lyophilic colloids readily absorb water and swell, forming stable dispersions. Bentonite clay is an example of a lyophilic material in water-based muds.
