Lyophilic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006850
Describing a colloidal system in which the dispersed particles have a strong affinity for the continuous dispersion medium, literally meaning 'solvent-loving'. This strong interaction leads to the spontaneous formation of a stable colloid when the two components are mixed. A lyophilic colloid is thermodynamically stable, and if the dispersion medium is water, the system is specifically termed hydrophilic.
