Hydrophilic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005482
Describing a molecular entity or a part of a molecule that has an affinity for water and tends to dissolve in, mix with, or be wetted by water. This property arises from the presence of polar or charged functional groups that can form hydrogen bonds or ion-dipole interactions with water molecules. Examples of hydrophilic groups include hydroxyl (-OH) and carboxyl (-COOH).
