Ionogenic groups
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006135
Functional groups within a molecule or on a material that can dissociate to form ions, typically by gaining or losing a proton. These groups are responsible for the charged nature of polyelectrolytes, ion-exchange resins, and many biological molecules. Examples include carboxylic acid groups (-COOH) and amine groups (-NH2).
