Ionomer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006136
A polymer containing a relatively small proportion of ionic groups, typically less than 15 mol%, covalently bonded to a nonpolar polymer backbone. These ionic groups tend to aggregate, forming microphase-separated domains that act as physical crosslinks. Ionomers exhibit enhanced mechanical strength, toughness, and melt viscosity compared to their non-ionic counterparts.
