Ionomer cluster
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006137
A region within an ionomer where multiple ionic groups, along with their counterions, aggregate together due to strong electrostatic forces. These clusters are distinct from the surrounding nonpolar polymer matrix and act as temporary physical crosslinks. The formation of these clusters significantly influences the glass transition temperature and mechanical properties of the ionomer.
