Cluster ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002146
An ion composed of a central ion surrounded by one or more neutral molecules, held together by non-covalent interactions such as electrostatic forces or hydrogen bonds. These species are often formed in the gas phase under conditions where collisions allow for association. Cluster ions are frequently observed in mass spectrometry, particularly with soft ionization techniques.
