Isotope cluster

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006228

A group of peaks observed in a mass spectrum that correspond to a single ion species containing different isotopic compositions of its constituent elements. These peaks arise because most elements exist as a mixture of isotopes with varying masses. The pattern and relative intensities of the peaks in an isotope cluster can provide information about the elemental composition of the ion.
