Isotopic molecular ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006248
A molecular ion that contains one or more atoms of a less abundant naturally occurring isotope, such as carbon-13, deuterium, or bromine-81, in place of the most abundant one. Its peaks sit beside the monoisotopic molecular ion peak, usually at higher m/z, although a lighter minor isotope such as boron-10 puts a peak at lower m/z. Their relative intensities follow natural isotope abundances, as in the roughly 1:1 pair of peaks produced by a bromine atom.
