Isotopic scrambling

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006249

The redistribution of isotopes within a molecule or between molecules during a chemical reaction or physical process. This phenomenon leads to a mixing of isotopic labels, making it challenging to trace the origin of specific atoms. Isotopic scrambling can occur through intramolecular rearrangements or intermolecular exchange reactions.
