Isotopic label

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006246

An atom within a molecule that has been replaced by one of its isotopes, typically a stable or radioactive isotope, to allow its detection and tracking in chemical, physical, or biological processes. The altered mass or radioactivity of the labeled atom provides a unique signature for monitoring the molecule's fate. Common isotopic labels include deuterium, carbon-13, nitrogen-15, and tritium.
