An atom, molecule, or group of atoms that is incorporated into a substance to allow its detection or tracking. This entity possesses a distinct property, such as radioactivity, fluorescence, or a unique isotopic composition, which can be measured. Labels are used to monitor chemical reactions, biological processes, or the movement of substances in a system.
