Supramolecular association
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011621
The formation of a complex entity from two or more chemical species held together by non-covalent intermolecular forces. These forces, such as hydrogen bonds, metal coordination, or hydrophobic effects, lead to the creation of organized structures with specific functions. Unlike covalent polymerization which forms new chemical bonds, supramolecular association is reversible and responsive to environmental changes like temperature or pH.
