Protected lyophobic colloid

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009566

A lyophobic colloid that has been stabilized against coagulation by the adsorption of a protective layer of a lyophilic substance. This adsorbed layer creates a steric or electrostatic barrier, preventing the colloidal particles from aggregating. Gelatin or gum arabic are common protective agents for gold sols.
