Protectin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009567
A cell surface glycoprotein, also known as CD59, that inhibits the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC) of the complement system. It binds to C8 and C9, preventing their insertion into the cell membrane and thus protecting host cells from complement-mediated lysis. This protein is widely expressed on human cells.
