Decay-accelerating factor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002896

A glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored protein found on the surface of many cell types, which protects host cells from complement-mediated damage. It functions by accelerating the decay of C3 and C5 convertases, key enzymes in both the classical and alternative pathways of the complement system. This protein is also known as CD55.
