Alternative pathway
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000458
One of the three pathways of the complement system, a part of the innate immune system, that can be activated directly by microbial surfaces without the need for antibodies. This pathway is initiated by the spontaneous hydrolysis of C3, leading to the formation of C3 convertase. It provides a rapid, non-specific defense against pathogens.
