Classical pathway
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002103
One of the three main routes by which the complement system, a part of the innate immune system, is activated. This pathway is typically initiated by the binding of C1 complex to antibody-antigen complexes or directly to certain microbial surfaces. Its activation leads to a cascade of protein cleavages, ultimately forming the membrane attack complex that lyses target cells.
