Complement reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002314
A cascade of biochemical events involving a series of plasma proteins that enhance the ability of antibodies and phagocytic cells to clear microbes and damaged cells from an organism. This reaction leads to the lysis of target cells, opsonization, and the recruitment of immune cells to sites of infection or inflammation. The complement system can be activated through classical, alternative, or lectin pathways.
