Mannose-binding protein
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006950
A C-type lectin that recognizes specific carbohydrate patterns on the surface of pathogens, initiating the lectin pathway of the complement system. This protein, also known as mannan-binding lectin, binds to mannose and N-acetylglucosamine residues. Its binding activates associated serine proteases, leading to pathogen opsonization and lysis.
