Concanavalin A

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002355

A plant lectin isolated from the jack bean, known for its ability to bind specifically to certain carbohydrate structures, particularly mannose and glucose residues. It is widely used in immunology as a mitogen to stimulate T lymphocytes, inducing their proliferation and activation. Concanavalin A also serves as a tool for glycoprotein purification and cell surface studies.
