Mitogen
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007418
A chemical substance that induces cell division, particularly in lymphocytes, leading to proliferation. These agents bind to specific receptors on the cell surface, initiating intracellular signaling pathways that drive the cell cycle. Phytohemagglutinin and concanavalin A are examples of plant-derived mitogens commonly used in immunology research to stimulate T-lymphocyte proliferation.
