Mitogen-activated protein kinase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007419
A family of serine/threonine-specific protein kinases that respond to extracellular stimuli and regulate cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. These enzymes are activated through a tiered signaling cascade involving a MAP kinase kinase kinase (MAP3K) and a MAP kinase kinase (MAP2K). The three major subfamilies in mammals are the extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), the c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs), and the p38 MAP kinases.
